Botanical Art Retreat ‘From Plant to Painting’ Clos Mirabel, France

April 13 @ 4:00 pm - April 20 @ 11:00 am

Enjoy a luxury botanical art retreat at Clos Mirabel, France learning how to work from ‘Plant to Painting’ this April.

I will be joining my friend Dianne Sutherland drawing and painting the rich flora of Clos Mirabel, using watercolours to capture the colours and textures of the plants.

This is will be a small and intimate workshop, with two experienced tutors, so there will be a lot of hands- on advice and demonstrations of techniques.

Together we will go through all the steps needed to create your artwork, from finding the perfect subject to sketchbook studies, to finished painting.

You will learn

  • How to create an informative study/sketchbook-style page.
  • How to make best use of space; using overlaps, separation and aerial perspective.
  • Colour matching, including underlying colour, tints and shades, and saturation
  • Identifying the specific watercolour techniques needed for the different features of the plant.
  • How to fine tune a final composition towards the creation of a painting.

By the end of the week the process from plant to painting will be clear and you will be ready to take your painting to a finished stage with confidence.

Clos Mirabel is a beautiful fifteen-acre estate between coast and mountains. Its 18th Century Manor House is set in private parkland amidst the gentle hills of Jurançon with magnificent uninterrupted views out over vineyards to the entire chain of the Pyrénées Atlantiques.

** Only two places are available on the course. Spouses/partners are welcome
